Why do movie theaters raise tickets and movie concession prices for? is it because of online privacy?

My local movie theater which only shows movies during and matinées on Saturday and only on Tuesday during the summer is raising their regular admission prices to $7. on this Friday. Right now it's only $6.50

Why would movie theaters raise their ticket prices and concession stand prices to see movies for? Is it because of a online privacy and people online watching them for free without paying to see them on the big screen?What's the real reason movie theaters do this? Are they told by the movie studios to do this? What's the real reason for movie theaters raising movie tickets and concession stand prices? Are movie tickets being affected by the rising gas and food prices?

I don't understand this either.  We are in a recession, and my local AMC theaters charge $9.50 for a Sunday Matinee!  And this is in Kansas City!  I can't imagine what they charge in LA or NYC.  They used to charge $5 or $6 for a Matinee, but now, unless you go to the 10:00am "first show of the day", which are $6, you don't even see Matinee prices.  They also have the cinema select seats which are $25 anytime, and yes, I did try those...once.  They were really nice & comfy, but then you realize you just paid $50 to see a movie (even with the food vouchers), and it makes you feel like a s*****k.  I understand covering the costs of p****y and others sneaking in, but if they lowered prices, people would pay for it and also buy snacks if they didn't feel like they were getting ripped off.  My local Cinemark is charging $4 for a Sunday Matinee and $6 for Sunday evening tickets.  I find this reasonable, and I'm sure we will pay another $15-20 in snacks.  Why anyone would go to AMC is beyond me!  I used to be an avid movie-goer, but even I have scaled back and have started waiting for movies on redbox.
