Why do movies and commercials have wet street roads?

In most movies and commercials you see that driveways or nighborhood streets are sometimes wet. Why is that?

  1. When they make there shots in different locations and have to edit it all togather afterwards.  haveing all wet roads in all the different locations make it believable to the viewing audience that it looks as if it was shot all in one locale.

  5. Its one of those special effects, they can't seem to be able to find period correct streets for their needs. Most people know that if you have a car chase in a movie and its based in the 50's not to many streets had markings painted on them like todays street. In commercials it does add some theatrics to the shot.
