Why do my 2 male chinchillas try and hump eachother?

they always jump on eacothers backs and try to do the nasty but the other one always runs away...they both do it to each other so i dont know if its normal

It's a dominance thing. My two males used to do it all the time. It'd get pretty bad, because the other one wouldn't back down and they'd start fighting, though neither one was hurt from these scuffles. Eventually, they stopped completely and live in complete harmony.

I'm guessing they're both males. It's mostly a dominance thing, trying to decide who is the alpha chinchilla.
