Question:

Why do my DVD's not display correctly on my HDTV now?

I have had my Hitachi HDTV for 6 years and the DVD's always played in widescreen perfectly. There was about 2 inches of black on top and bottom of the screen. I just got HD Cable added to my service, and when I play a DVD, the picture is displayed on the middle 3rd of the screen, with a ton of black space on top and bottom. The display settings haven't changed from 1080i : Standard.

Does anyone know why this would happen. BTW, the menu and trailors still play like they always used to, but the feature presentation shows up smaller and in the middle third of the screen.

Thanks!

  1. The aspect ration might need to be changed or reset

  2. How do you have your stuff hooked up and what did you change when you got the cable box? It doesn't make much sense that a cable box would have anything to do with your DVD player.

  3. Perhaps when the cable was installed the TV setup menu was changed.  Be sure the display is set to "stretch" mode.
