if i wear a pair of simple loafers that aren't really snug since ive already loo-send them by wearing them whether or not i do allot of walking in them my ankles get very swollen to the point where now there's a crease in between where my ankle is and where my foot begins

its really embarrassing and sometimes even pain full

now obviously after im off my feet like when i first wake up my ankles/feet are fine then through the course of the day they get worse when i wear socks i get a mark from them cuz they go through my skin and my ankles still get swollen but not as badly im pretty sure i have something called pitting edema where i can have a dent in my leg for a while when i press my finger into my leg /foot i had inflamation around my heart wich was pretty serious since it can lead to heart attack i know my diet is terrible i dont get excercise and im only 22 years old and i know the answer is strict dieting and a major life revamp but what can i do for my swollen ankle problem in the mean time ?? again its embarrising and i hate it very much and my left ankle always seems worse is there any reason for that?

thank you to anyone who answers and i would appreciate a kind and informitive word i know the doctor again is the answer and i do have to start a diet but does anyone have experience with this??

  1. the shoes dont suit you or you dont suit them.

  2. well you seem to know the answer, just because it is hard doesn't mean that it's not the right answer. Change your diet and get some exercise - just go for it!  Spend some time and effort MAKING yourself do it. Once you get a bit of a routine it does become easier.

As for the shoes you need to chuck out the ones you've got and get something with better support - try trainers.

  3. Yes it is pitting edema.  The two causes of this are either heart problems or kidney problems.  You should see your doctor soon.  The extra fluid means either that your heart is not circulating the blood correctly or the kidneys are not working well enough to make all your fluids into urine.  Both are very serious and could also lead to high blood pressure.  With the extra fluid in your body your heart is working extra hard to circulate the blood because of the increase in blood pressure.  This could lead to heart attack or congestive heart failure if not treated in a timely manner.  Until you can get to the doctor try not to eat salty foods or to add much salt to what you eat.  Anything that you wear that is tight on your legs such as socks or sweats that put pressure on your leg will cause more swelling. What you should wear is socks that are not tight at the top so that as the fluid accumulates in your legs the socks won't start getting tight which can cause more edema to appear.
