Why do my avatars always turn up blurry?

I just changed my avatar to Rafa, and it looks awful, you can't even tell who it is. Before that I had a picture of me, but that was extreamly blurry too..how can I make it not so blurry?

This avatar isn't blurry at all.  We're not using photo quality images on here.  It's a teeny, tiny little image, and not high resolution, or shouldn't be too high.  It looks fine to me.
