Why do my baby mice keep dying?

I recently bought two adult female mice.Little did i know that they were BOTH pregnant. One of them had 10 babies, the other had 2(probably her first litter. My cat knocked over the cage with the 10 babies in it(i now have a more sturdy cage). When the cage fell the ceramic food dish fell onto three babies and killed them. This happened July 2nd. About 48 hours later i found another dead baby( i believe she was the runt).24 hours later the two babies from the 2nd litter were dead (with no teeth marks from mommy). The older baby mouse seemed to have what i believe to be mites(clear things latched to the ends of her fur)probably mommy passed these onto her babies). I quickly went to buy some Ultra Care flea and tick spray(for small animals) from PetCo. I sprayed both adults and sprayed some onto my fingers (with a glove on) and rubbed the babies. They are all doing fine now with the exception of one.I found another one dead in the cage tonight. Why do my babies keep dying? Is it the mites?

  1. Sounds like they've had a pretty traumatic time until now. Bound to be that most of them will die. Another problem may be temperature. They need to be at 75 to 90 degrees fahrenheit.
