  1. wat is the bedding?

they dont have any beding in nature.

  2. In the wild parakeets don't have any type of bedding they lay their eggs on bare wood. Years ago people used a nest block. This was just a piece of 3/4" pine and it had a concave hole about three inches across. This keeps the eggs under the hen. If they laid their eggs on a flat board in the nest the eggs would roll everywhere. The eggs would never hatch because of the rolling around and not being incubated. For some reason they no longer sell the bit the makes these blocks. I bought mine about thirty years ago and kept it sharp. It takes a good drill press to even be able to use the bit. People started using wood shavings when the nest blocks were no longer available. I have tried to breed parakeets both ways. Parakeets will raise almost twice as many babies with a nest block in there box versus a box with wood shavings. Maybe I should start making some of these nest blocks. It is hard for them to turn the eggs in the wood shavings. When you have a nest block it facilitates the hen turning the eggs, hence a better hatch.

  3. Hello.

Some birds need the bedding, some don't . My birds do , they just chew it smaller and lay eggs in there ...they all need some , otherwise the newly hatch babies will have spraying leggs ( leggs go apart and when they are older, they can't perch . ) TM.

  4. The simple answer is!! Budgies don't like bedding in their nest boxes, all they require is a bare box, never put beding in for Budgies they won't use it to nest.

  5. It is normal for a bird to arrange its box to its liking, which may include throwing some or all of its bedding out.
