Why do my carrots get black spots

  1. Well, if it happens in storage, then it is one type of fungus, but if the whole plant and the carrots themselves come out of the ground that way, then it is alternaria blight and you will need to space the carrots farther apart for better air circulation when growing, remove bad leaves, and weed the area often.  

    But they thing the stuff used for licorice rot (black spots appear during cold storage) has other advantages as well - see the second link!
