Why do my eyes look more wide-set in photos than in real life (they are fairly normal set)

  2. Never hold the camera and take your own picture.  Have someone else take it and stand back a ways and zoom in.  You will look like you should.

  3. judging from your avatar.... you ain't from around these parts are you?

    have a friend stand back several feet and take your picture. you'll find you will look more like you are from these parts.

  4. You're probably taking self-portraits with wide angle lenses, aren't you?  They distort.  Whatever is closest looks unusually large, and anything farther away looks very small.  So if the camera is aimed directly between the eyes, it will get the effect you mentioned.
