Why do my friends refer to me as a "tomboy"?

I'm 13, I like school, I'm in the 8th grade this year, I like art and music (I don't mean that I like screaming and heavy metal). My favorite color is yellow, but I like some shades of pink. I like video games. I really like animals and I have 5 pets. I don't like to say "OMG" and things like that. I don't really like shopping. I'm not into dating and boys and don't have a bf, but some of my friends are guys. I enjoy phone conversations sometimes, but I"m not addicted to the phone like some other people I know.

Does any of this make me seem like a tomboy?

You sound pretty normal to me, although all the girls I know like shopping on some level but it coluld be in the way you dress or act? I'm just guessing here 'cause I obviously don't know you so I can't really make that judgement.

It could of even been a one off remark for whatever reason that maybe got to you a bit and so they use it as an on-going joke.

Because a "girly girl" LOVES to shop, LOVES the color pink. They LOVE talking on the phone, all day every day and texting. They have boyfriends and are OBSESSED with the opposite s*x. I'm a tomboy to. I'm just like one of the guys. I would much prefer to go out and play sports and get dirty then go get my nails done. I'm just not into being all pretty and being top of the line.

the only part that seems tomboy ish is the part where you dont like shopping and you arent interested in guys yet.  thats fine, you are still in middle school.  being a tomboy isnt bad really.  the phone thing is no biggy i am not all that in to the phone. and video games are fine.  any girl can impress a guy with their gaming skills. with the whole boy thing, it is just that your friends hav started to get their hormones more and are more matured in that area.

None of what you were saying makes you seem like a tomboy.  I used to have people call me a tomboy, too, just because I hang out with more guys than girls.  I also never used to dress in skirts and things like that, and so I guess they decided I was a tomboy.  Anyway, don't take it personally at all.  Being a tomboy is awesome, anyway!

The definition of tomboy today is, not liking the latest fashions, you like video games, and you don't act like a real preppy girl. I know a girl who is pretty much a cuddly semi-romantic type who doesn't like wearing skinny jeans, make up, or any of those short short things. She's counted as a tomboy in her area.

You sound like me at age 13. I wasn't always at the mall or shopping or on the phone like most girls, and most of my friends were guys. And yea i was known as a tomboy aswell. At age 13 you should be having fun not going boy crazy, there's plenty of time for that. Who cares if they call you a tomyboy, you'll grow out of it and if you don't thats ok too.

I'm 24 and i'm still kind of a tomboy, i don't say omg! apply makeup everday, go to malls or shop all day, cuz i got other things to do. I'm just not a girly girl (never have been), i'm not afraid to break a nail or scrap my skin, this is life things like this happen. My bf likes the fact that i'm a tomboy cuz we have fun together, and i'm not afriad of most things like other girls.

Being a tomboy doesn't mean you act like a boy, it just means you don't care about overly being a girl. Being a girl doesn't mean you have to wear pink, put on makeup, talk about boys, gossip on the phone, and wear high heels all the time.

Just be yourself and do what makes you happy, your growing and i'm sure you'll grow up into a very nice women

no, because 'tomboy' is labeling and classing loads of people as being the same thing, when no one is the same, and plus, the definition of 'tomboy' is not the same as what you just wrote about yourself.

Its probably because you don't act like all the girly girls and your not into guys yet so you probably don't care about impressing them or whatever girls do. =)

You're not the girliest girl out there, but I don't think you are a tomboy. Idk...I was kind of the same way as you at 13. Nothing wrong with it. You'll date when you're ready. I still like to play video games with my guy friends in college and I love the color pink. Love to shop but I didn't until I was like 15. Everyone is different.

i dont think you sound like a tom boy at all.. just because youre not into the same kinds of stuff does not mean you dont act like a girl.. and who says girls HAVE TO like pink and shopping? lots of my friends dont really like shopping, because it isnt something everyone is into... i wouldnt say youre a tom boy at all...youre just arent a girly-girl and there is nothing wrong with that!

Not exactly, what youre into doesnt make you a tomboy.  Its your behavior.  Maybe your friends are just more girly than you are and that makes them THINK that you are a tomboy.  Dont worry about what other people think of you.  If you like how you are then dont change.

A tomboy is usually a girl that acts and dresses like a boy but sometimes it can just mean a girl who can hang with the guys. Just because you don't act like a total airhead doesn't make you a tomboy.  Sounds like you're an individual, which is something to be proud of.

u sound pretty normal but maybe they just say that cuz u dont like to shop..i mean, different girls have different preferences and maybe ur not into it and they are so they just call u a tomboy..its not really a big deal but if it bothers u..just talk to them and ask them why they call u a tomboy!

Tomboy-ish, maybe.  You're 13, you shouldn't like shopping and talking on the phone for hours.  It's cool you like music and being active, it'll prevail in the long run.

I wouldn't say "Tomboy" and I wouldn't say "Girly girl". But honestly, I would rather be a tomboy then an annoying girly-girl.  Seems like you are a pretty cool girl, and I guess you'll just have to be keep being yourself and your friends will realize that you aren't a tomboy.  But don't change your personality at all!

i think its normal.. tomboy doesnt need kind of requirments but it depends how a person see the meaning of tomboy itself. mayb that's what ur friends think bout what being tomboy look like.. thats y they say that u r tomboy.. but what's wrong w/ tomboy? tomboy girls in my school even become very popular.. and they also prefered by boys and stuffs.. yea the point is, u r being urself and it is very good.. u kno many teens having problem w/ "identity" and sumtimes dress, act like who they want to b or their groups to be accepted? just keep being ur self :)
