Why do my garden cucumbers smell and taste rotten?

My garden gets plenty of sun and water. I let the cucumbers grow to a normal size. I then refrigerate them over night and try them the next day. They smell like rotten veggies. Could it be bad dirt? I have not used any fertilizers, compost, or chemicals. My tomatos next to them are not ready to eat, so I don't know if they will taste the same. I'm ready to take out the plants! Thank you for any advice.

they may be lacking a fertiliser, are the skins firm , if not super phosphate may be the answer, also your soil could starved of nutrients
