Why do my hands collapse in the golf swing? I just videotaped myself. I look like John Daly at the top of the backswing. Any suggestions to fix this?

  1. I'm not a pro or good player, but what I see on most hihdcap players this happened because they rock their shoulder instead of turn their shoulder.

    try this, MAYBE it work...

stand normally, imagine a ball in front of you with 2 ft high... then swing your clubs and imagine that you hit the imaginary ball.

I do this drill for my son, but my son do it with real ball... so I put a ball on top of a bottle and he hit that ball.

You can see the video on http://www.youtube.com/jutas98, look at  "junior swing artist"

If you still see your hands collapse, then check your weight on the top of your back swing, maybe your weight more on left... many teaching pro said that on the top of backswing, the weight more on right.

  2. To expand on what reject said first, check your grip at the top of you swing. If you need an adjustment do it there at the top, then bring the club back down to address with your new grip position and see how much different it was from your original grip. It could be very helpful.

  3. I think it's your grip

I used to do that, and my teacher told me it's my grip.

Fix your grip and you'll be fine.

  4. You probably c**k your wrists very late in the back swing, and this can create floppiness at the top.

Take a back swing and check to see if your are letting go at the top with your right hand.

Are your elbows the same distance from each other at the top and at address? Any separation will cause an over swing.

    Solution

Try letting the wrists c**k fully, sooner in the back swing, keeping the elbows together. This will give you a feeling of a three quarter length back swing. You will find that you will go through the ball better and release your wrist c**k better and at the right moment.
