Question:

Why do my hips hurt at 36 weeks pregnant?

I am in my 36th week and a couple of days ago, my hips and upper thighs and my butt cheeks started hurting, especially at night. I have been having a constant low back ache for quite some time, that seems to have worsened in the last couple of days as well. I did not have the hip and thigh pain with my first pregnancy, but I had alot of back pain. How long before I go into labor do you think,if this is a sure sign of labor?

  1. Everything is starting to open up for the main event.  Unfortunatley it doesn't mean that labour is near...good luck.

  2. your baby has most likely dropped and your pelvic bone is expanding to make room for his/her head. I am 36wks as well and have all the same symptoms and i did with my last as well.. good luck and congrats

rest as much as possible and put your feet up

  3. a few things may be happening based on my own experiences

1-your baby might have dropped, its not limited to a first time pregnancy

2-since this isn't your first pregnancy your body is recognising the signs of labor rediness. you might have increased relaxin hormone, but it doesn't mean you'll deliver early.

3-baby might be pressing on a nerve

    4-baby might be posterior

I had this kind of pain with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. I was 9 days early with #2 and 4 days late with #3, I started experiencing the pain at about 35-36 weeks both times.

discuss it with your doc/midwfie at your next appointment. fortunately this discomfort wasn't a factor during labor

  4. It sounds like you are probably releasing Relaxin. It's a hormone that causes your hips to widen thus making it easier for the baby to pass through the birth canal.

It wouldn't necessarily mean you are about to go into labor.  Your body is just gearing up for the big event in these upcoming weeks.

  5. sounds like the baby is dropping and starting to make your hips and everything spread. The baby could come early, but it could also come whenever it want :) Good luck!!!!

  6. because of all the extra weight

  7. Oh gosh I know how you feel- it hurts! Your ligaments and everything are stretching to prepare you for the baby.  Your body/hips are making room for the baby to come out.  I had to ask my doctor because it was painful! it hurt to walk. But nothing is wrong with you or anything..it is normal :) You are almost there!!!! congrats

  8. Simple answer...they're spreading. I'm only 28 weeks but mine began spreading around 12 weeks...It's all for a good cause...that's what i keep talking myself into believe...haha :)

  9. DON'T WORRY IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US, IT'S FROM ALL THE EXTRA WEIGHT WE ARE CARRY'N. JUST KEEP YOUR DOCTOR INFORMED AND DON'T WORRY YOU WILL KNOW WHEN YOU ARE IN LABOR. GOOD LUCK!
