Question:

Why do my lettuce plants always bolt?

It seems like no matter what type of lettuce I plant, it always ends up bolting quickly. It is the type of soil, the amount of water, the amount of sunlight, the temperature? I'm frustrated!

  1. Lettuce is a cool weather crop.  It will bolt when it's warm

  2. Our lettuce tried to bolt, but the fence stopped it!!

    LOL, (wish I could help)

  3. Usually lettuce will bolt when the weather gets too hot, or it's not picked early enough.  I don't know what time of the year you are planting it, but it is usually an early spring crop and autumn crop here in SC.  Obviously, the further north you go, the cooler the weather becomes.  Also, some types of lettuce are better than others according to location.  I prefer to plant the leafy types as opposed to iceburg, etc.

I personally don't know of any soil differences that would cause lettuce to bolt, nor, aside from providing ample water to prevent the plant from dying, I don't know of any water issues either.

    good luck

  4. i think it about a proper cultivating the sand.. or soil.
