Why do my morning glory flowers wither?

I see the flowers partially open in the morning as I leave for work but when I get back in the evening, they are all withered. It looks like the flower got sucked back into itself.

What's up with that? How long does the bloom usually last?

morning glories only bloom in the morning.  they're supposed to close in the PM and they will re-open in the morning.
