Why do my non HD channels look worst than before?

so I just recently got HD for directv

the HD channels look amazing but the non HD channels look worst than before I had HD..is it because ive just gotten so used to the HD or does it really look a bit bad because of maybe the signal or something? anyone else have this complaint

  1. It's probably because the Sat receiver is set to 1080i only output.  Go into the settings and find display resolution.  Make sure to check 480p.  What this does is if you have a 480i signal (the old stuff) it will only upconvert to 480p.  The problem is the upconversion.  I've seen it with directv occasionally but far more often with cable boxes and Dish receivers.

    BTW--Directv is the best possible picture quality you're gonna get.  They have the best overall quality of digitized analog signals.  They probably have the best equipment.


  2. actually non hd channels displayed on an hdtv don't look all that great.  Also, You are probably used to seeing a great picture so the non hd looks even worse
