this problem is not only with auto mode only but with manual too

what can be possibly wrong with it? please advice me if you know something about it

  1. Cannot be sure, but there is a chance that your camera has bad electrical contacts with the batteries. Will put a link to help with this in the source. Have seen pictures with poor focus caused by this.  Also, you can cause your camera  to reset or restore to the original settings by removing the batteries for at least one minute.  Make sure that the lens is clean and remove extra memory to eliminate this as a cause.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may have a full charge, but will be viewed by the camera as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but with extending the lens, focus, optical zoom, and flash charging in the capture mode; it is like starting a car.  With bad contacts the camera can do strange things like blurring pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

  2. Since the problem seems to be across the board, you may want to call the Canon help line 800.OK-CANON and ask them what the problem may be.

This is an older camera, so my guess is that this condition has just occurred, is that right?

Usually with good lighting your photos can be amazing and under exposing 1/3rd stop, you can increase the colour saturation ... just like we did in the days of shooting transparencies.

PS:  if your battery contacts were bad, the camera would not turn on  ... it may be the sensor is going bad or your light meter is starting to fail, although both conditions are rare .. at least in Nikon and Canon camera's
