Why do my refrigerator contents freeze?

Contents of refrigerator freeze, especially on the lefthand side. I have turned the temp control down but it does not help.

Sometimes it has to do with air flow.  I find stuff freezes when my fridge is a crowded mess, or when I leave something in the same place (especially the back of the top shelf) for a long time.

the compressor may be running backwards.

Either the temperature is turned down to low or the thermostat is broken and the compressor is running none stop
