Whenever I run for awhile my right side ribs start to hurt. Its a sharp pain and it only hurts whenever I breath. After a few minutes it finally stops.

Why is it?

What should I do so it wont happen?

Also my mom said that it happened when she was younger too, so could it be genetics?

  1. It sounds like while you are running your are moving your organs around more than they like while you are breathing your diaphragm is moving up and down causing stress to both your organs and diaphragm. there are a few ligaments that attach your liver to your diaphragm that tend to get over stretched. try stretching out your abs n obliques before going for your run. also dont run after guzzling a bunch of water it will only make it worse

  2. I heard that there are two reasons why - it could be lack of oxygen or you are not getting enough water.  Try drinking more water to keep yourself hydrated while you run. Also practice deep breathing exercises while you run, i.e., inhale deeply like you would at a doctor's office.
