Question:

Why do my small indoor plants have algae or mose on the sides of the pots?

I bought 3 small indoor plants, all different types but roughly all the same size. I kept them in adequate sunlight and watered them when the soil got dry. I noticed one day that the pot had some white furry looking stuff and little green dots on the sides.

What is the problem and what is the best way to keep this from happening again.

Thank you all.

  1. The white furry stuff is a fungus.  A home remedy is to spray the fungus with a solution of baking soda and water.  Try not to use too much, baking soda will change the pH of your soil.   Plants grow best in a slightly acidic soil.  The algae is probably from over-watering.  Are you the only one who waters?  Let the top inch of the soil dry out, stick your finger in the soil to see if there is water underneath.  Hope this helps.
