Why do my subs cut out after playing a while?

I have mtx subs and amp. I bought them in a package together at circuit city. Sometimes when songs are playing for a while at high volume, or they have just been turned up to high volume, the subs cut out leaving me with no bass. What is causing this problem and how can I fix it?

  1. you might want to make sure your amp and subs have enough peak power or rms. peak power it will only go that high then it will cut out. also if u have the volume just a bit to high the rms (basically wat it uses normally on low volumes) will be too high for that to work. im not too sure tho. i just installed subs and an amp in my car and it works great.
