Why do my subs keep shutting off?

I drive 45 minutes to my college and my subs work perfectly. But on my 45 min drive back home after like 20 minutes into the drive, my subs start to shut off. Like they shut off for five min and then they start again for a couple minutes, and then they stop again for five minutes, etc. And this happens like every time i drive to school, what do you think can be the problem, is this supposed to happen?

can someone help me? my subs are doing the same thing, but im running a 900 watt amp on rocksford fosgate p1s, but i seen people that have 300w for those, could my amp still not be powerful enough for my subs? btw my amps located under my back seats in a yukon
