Question:

Why do my teeth hurt after fillings?

I had thirteen cavities filled over a month ago. My teeth are still killing me all the time. I have been back to the dentist four times and have seen multiple dentists. They have adjusted my bite and most recently put on some anti-sensitivity coverings, which just made the pain feel like it went down into my gums. They have taken x-rays and say none of the cavities are anywhere near my nerves or roots and there don't appear to be any air spaces. But one quadrant of my mouth hurts so bad all the time (and another two quadrants hurt sometimes) and my gums hurt, and the inside of my cheeks, even my throat and ear sometimes! I need help! Thank you.

  1. I had a filling done a couple of of months ago, and it ached occassional for the first month (ranging from minor to fairly significant pain), and then it hurt when i put  floss in between it and the tooth next to it. It seems to be fading now. I went back to get it x-rayed and looked at (it's a front tooth so I didn't need a bite adjustment). They found nothing wrong with it either. It's not really helpful, but I had a similar experience and it is settling down now.

Are your wisdom teeth growing/still in? When my wisdom teeth were growing it would make one side of my mouth hurt. And they were growing in straight so the dentist didn't expect them to cause pain.

  2. This is quite normal I have had about 10 fillings done over a period of 6 weeks and it took a good 4 months before the pain slowly dies down but it will.

  3. 13 cavities is a lot of work. I just had 1 2 weeks ago and I am still in pain. Just try to relax and take lots of advil.I know how you feel though, nothing is worse than a toothache.
