None of my other clothes stink, just my towels. I even use color safe bleach.

  1. I have this problem if I don't put them in the dryer right away. Oxyclean along with detergent helps take the smell out.

  2. maybe you should use fabric softner in the rinse cycle or add a cup of ammonia to your wash

  3. You are probably overloading the washer.

  4. It's probably the towels. We had a set that did that. It was only the ones of a certain brand and I can't remember the country they were made in or the brand name. None of out other ones did that. Since we chalked up our loss and got rid of them the problem is also gone. We also had to get rid of a few other things that got washed with those towels and face cloths. We tried everything but everytime they got wet again they would smell.

  5. use a cup of white vinegar in the wash

  6. It could be several things.

How do you treat your towels? Do you hang them up to dry after each use? If not they will develop a hideous scent that will require a couple of washes and lots of fragrance to deal with it.

Also, as mentioned you may be overloading your washer. What do you wash with your towels? Hopefully you are not tossing them in with the contents from your gym bag or that pile of stinky socks. I wash mine with my sheets and the dark ones with my sleep tees and shorts.

Are you using too much bleach? Too much can give a very nasty smell to anything cleaned with it.

Finally, if you think it really is BO, do like my granny taught me, add a cup of baking soda to the wash fresher smelling clothes (it also brightens whites). If not allergic, you could also add fabric softener with a great scent.

  7. I have found that using baking soda in the wash helps.

  8. I always use plain white towels and wash then in hot water with regular Clorox and sometimes a little Oxyclean.

Colored towels aren't the most sanitary way to wash and dry off with anyways. And some dyes used to color towels have an odor themselves, and it is hard to fully clean them.
