Why do my tweeters distort?

they make a crackling sound with most music, even at low volumes. is it the tweeters or something else? they are hooked up to an alpine mrp-f240

take the cover off and look for cracks in the cone.

As the other answer said, put a cap in series to block bass.

maybe 10uF, non polarized. for 4 ohm speakers, this will cut off below 5000hz

if you have been running the tweeters without bass blockers then i would say yes it is the tweeters they cant take much bass if any try backing the bass down and see if you get the same results.
