  1. Grease or dirt on the blades or windscreen, clean them with  Meths or similar

  2. Why are you on your computer whilst driving? lol

You mean they are quieter when its not raining...how odd? lol

  3. Low quality and/or old wipers make a lot of noise. Buy a good quality new ones.

  4. Probably because they are old and the rubber has hardened. This can cause a judder or a squeaking noise. Replace them!

  5. Get a cloth, put some washing up liquid on it and just wipe over the blades. It works every time plus it cleans your windows. I use it all the time more so in Winter.... just wipe them down in the winter if there is going to be a frost and it and in the mornings you will have no trouble.

  6. if they are new then you need to wd 40 the springs where the wiper arm lifts up

  7. that happens in my mum's car... but i've noticed that it only happens when there isnt much rain- it scrapes the window more than any water on it. It works fine in heavy rain.

  8. there some common sounds when they are in use , such as, squeaks, and motor sounds, and sometimes you can hear the blade arms vibrate from lack of water on the windscreen. Any other noises would indicate a problem with the operation.

  9. You need new ones

  10. Vinegar and newspaper is a great way to clean a wiper blade, but even better, cut a lemon in half and wipe it with that.

  11. might be because they need changing or they're dirty. Try cleaning them with white vinegar and newspaper, if that doesn't work I'd buy some new ones!

  12. they are dryed out! take a alcolhol pad and wipe the rubber down.

  13. they could be worn down get new ones and u might need to de-wax ur windscreen

  14. Why do your windscreen wipers make so much noise when operating in the rain?

They are sticking to the windscreen, rather they are sticking and then slipping.  This is known as stick-slip, a type of sliding where the mode of lubrication flip-flops between the two.  To resolve this you can lower the friction in the "stick" part.  If you wash your windscreen with diluted washing-up liquid it should help (leave a thin film of residue).  Sometimes replacing the wipers or changing the compound helps, but this is a bit hit-and-miss.

If you want to find out more, you can google "stick-slip" or "soft EHL" to discover some of the latest research on the problem.  It's still not fully understood.
