How is there suppose to be political change if they must agree with every law that is on the books? The reason they got elected in the first place is so they can change the law, not merely to be its steward. I thought America was about political expression and the birthplace of ideas. What are we as American citizens to do if we don't agree with the law. We can't get anywhere by speaking to our reps because it is the same old people getting elected over and over and the districts have been gerrymeandered and they just patronize us and send us a form letter when we complain about the law. And we can't (in good conscious) run for office ourselves because we must take an oath that we agree to uphold the law we came to change. I don't get it.

  1. It is a test to ensure that they are good liars.

  2. Not only elected officials, but any government employee must also take this oath.

  3. Yes, you complained about a handful of things and I see you don't get it. Elected officials agree to uphold the existing law while working to make changes for the better. Well, that's an answer to one of the questions I think you might have been trying to ask.

  4. They have to uphold the Constitution always.

They have to obey the laws until they are changed.

This does not prevent them from changing laws.
