  1. They don't. They get paid way more than any of us make in a year.

  2. The average NFL salary is 1.62MM (as per the NFL Players union)

The average NHL salary is 2.23MM (as per the NHLPA)

So, using basic math, hockey players are paid MORE than football players!

  3. ummm i dont think they have anything to complain about lol

  4. they dont.

hockey players prob. get less because football is a more dangerous sport

  5. I'd love to get the min of what an NHL player gets. That's good money.

ps What Ryan  & redwings said is fact too. No TV/cable = no $$$

  6. there just isnt as many hockey fans these days

  7. i think athletes in general make way too much money.

they have a pretty simple task and that is going out and perform their best.

all they do is train and that is beneficial to them as well, and deal with the media.

same with celebrities, they make way too much.

people like doctors should be making more, considering they save lives and their jobs are a lot harder and more complicated.

they actually have to go to school.

oh well, i guess the world is not fair.

  8. hockey is not a real big sporting revenue compare to baseball and football. americans are not hockey people.

  9. The AVG salary  of a hockey player is greater than the average salary of a FOOTBALL player..TRUE FACT!

  10. Because hockey isnt as popular and marketable as other sports.

  11. Football players don't last as long as hockey players.

Basketball teams don't have as many players

Baseball is still a much bigger sport than the NHL.

  12. Football players actually get paid less on average than hockey players.  Most players make their money off of endorsments, which america has very little of for hockey.

  13. as for people say its down to the nhl not promoting..

i say its more that channels and networks such as ESPN, are not interested in it in the slightest. they want nothing to do with it.

you watch it even during the NHL season, they hate it, it barley gets a  mention at all. in comparison to footballl basketball baseball you name it

paywise, i do think its down to revenue but i also think the nhl monitors  how much people get paid a bit more, theres also aot more class in the game you never saw, Greztky, bobby orr all of the greats behaving the way some other pro sportsmen act. thast another reason i think pay maybe low. as money can ruin things

  14. Not as many people can go to a game since the stadiums are smaller. Hockey also draws form a more intelligent fan base statistically, and there are less of us around.

Salaries are more comparable to Basketball, which has the same number of games in the same size- and often the same arenas. Though some basketball players get much larger contracts because there are different restrictions on how much a player can make in relation to the cap. But Team average is about the same.

never mind, turns out I'm wrong. I thought football players were paid more too. Baseball salaries though...

  15. they are getting more $$$$$$$$$$ every year !

  16. theyre not gready like the players in other sports. you play hockey for the passion of the game. you play basketball, baseball, football to make money and be in the limelight

  17. i think a better question is why do football players get paid soo much just to play 16 games?

  18. # 1 NHL is under the WNBA in ratings ( sad but 100% true)

    # 2 the NHL SUCKS at promoting the sport

    DUR!

  19. most of them take less for another team and theres a much lower cap/is a cap unlike most other sports.

  20. uh no Ovechkin over 130 mill that is little!!! wow how greedy can you get?

  21. Because most hockey players aren't concerned about making tons of money, they love the game, and consider what they do make a luxery.

  22. -B/c there has to be a balance with revenue, salaries for teams, to keep NHL going.

-NFL will run into that problem sooner than later.
