Why do older people 'get choked up' more frequently than when they were younger?

I've noticed some older people (65 +) seem to get choked up and have difficulty talking more now than when they were younger. I've talked to several people who've experienced this and they say it's just a factor of aging.

  1. Hello! I'm 72,and I'm not sure what you mean?If you mean we get emotional about things, yes we do,but I haven't come across too many elderly people having difficulty speaking about it.Indeed most would bore you stupid given the chance. We certainly get more 'weepy' at times.Young people don't recognize how fast age catches up with you,and we the aged realize we may not have the time nor the opportunity to share the pleasures of our young children.

  2. It comes from an overwhelming longing. Memories are all we have when we get old.  They are so precious. I am guilty of the "waterworks" when I reminisce.

  3. Because they've lived long enough to not take things for granted anymore.  They realize how fleeting some things are, and aren't worried about expressing their emotions.
