  1. Because as you get older your blood vessel and arteries become less elastic. There is less "budge" to the walls of the veins so the extra pressure moves along the blood pathway.

  2. Because they have to deal with us young'ns

  3. There are a few reasons:

    1) Loss of elasticity of blood vessles (Arteries and Veins)

    2) Enlarged size of heart (not in all but can be)

    3) Brain: Older people tend to think things way more seriously and there is a large some of tension build-ups from Relations and relatives, wealth management and  self consiousness.

    4) Also modern lifestyle makes one prone to high blood pressure-fast paced work environment, keeping jobs, Lack of body activity etc

    5) Even a very large number of youth, teenagers and even pre-teen are admitted with high blood pressure- again modern food and habits!!!

  4. The major age-related cause of hypertension is the STIFFENING OF ARTERIAL WALLS which almost inevitably occurs with aging.  Over time, the number of COLLAGEN fibers in artery and arteriole walls increases, making blood vessels stiffer. With the reduced elasticity comes a smaller cross-sectional area in systole, and so a raised mean arterial blood pressure.

Another age-related phenomenon associated with blood pressure is ARTERIOSCLEROSIS, or the development of plaques, composed of minerals and lipoproteins, on arterial walls.  Arteriosclerosis not only tends to increase blood pressure, but also increases the likelihood of heart attacks (myocardial infarctions) and strokes (cerebrovascular accidents).
