  1. In some states, internet gambling is illegal.

  2. It is a matter of security the do this to make sure you are who you say you are.

  3. Like any legitmate business, they want to be able to verify your address to make sure a) the card or account used is one used by the right person and b) sometimes they might need to send you a check for payment.  Also, if someone changes your address on your account (i.e. if someone steals your log on name and password) then you can see if someone is using your money if the address has changed.

  4. Lot's of reasons . . . one of which is if you win and want to get paid via check (increasingly necessary) they need to know where to send it.

At one time (before Kyl, Frist et. al) there was at least the pretense of trying to comply with the Patriot Act and anti-money laundering provisions.

  5. Several reasons the most obvious one being the requirement to establish your identity and also for funding your account with the verification of your credit card and lastly the funds withdrawl process if you are lucky.

  6. to authorize your credit card. a credit card will not authorize if the address does not match the one the credit card company has on file. it is to make sure the gamblers are not using stolen cards.

  7. So they can come to your house, and break your leggs if you don't pay up!

  8. The online gaming industry has been bombarded by scam artists.  The sites simply need to verify your identity, it's a common practice.  In fact, if a site did not want to verify my address I would be less likely to deal with them as I view that as a security lapse.
