This has really baffled me for some time now! We did a little experiment the other night while traveling through the streets of Melbourne (and other Victorian suburbs) to see if we could spot a single 7-11 store that had a white-boy working behind the counter. We simply could not find one! And I'm almost completely convinced that such a thing does not exist. It seems that most 7-11's are run by Indians these days, followed by Arabs, and then Asians. What I really want to know is the reason why. Obviously, there MUST be a reason for this as it cannot be coincidence, but that reason is not obvious to me.
There are many white folk working at other service stations like Caltex, Mobil, Shell, BP, and so forth at the same hours (both day and night). But I have never seen a white working in 7-11 in a good 10 years. Anybody know the reason for this? Is it franchise-owned? Do they pay too little? 7-11 still seems to be a US-owned company, so I'm very curious about this, and whether it's also the case in other Western countries where 7-11 exists. Thanks!
