Why do other countries have red and white stripes similar to the USA?

Why do so many different countries have the same red and white stripes and the blue top left corner? Did we colonize them or something of that sort. I really have no idea so please help!

Because the us is made up of all of them. =)

They wish to emulate Ameican values and independance. Their country was so inspired by the US, that it decided to utilize them. An important example is Liberia. Colonized by free American slaves, it used the US flag as a template for their beliefs and independance.

All flags have some similarities, some were before the US and some after.
