Ok so wearing clothes in cool conditions help us keep our warmth compared to not wearing them as clothes trap air.. Air has low thermal conductivity, meaning heat does not conduct/transfer very easily in it. It is an insulator.

So by having trapped air, when we would lose heat to a cooler environment, it would not go through or transfer to the air as it does not conduct it very well. Our body stays warm.

In other words if we had some metal instead of air underneath my clothes, I would get very cold as metals conduct heat very well and thus heat would transfer very easily through it and make the body cold. It would take up all the warmth my body has as it transfers easily through it.

Is this correct? Thanks in advance. Will gie 10 points to best answer.

  1. You are correct. There's not much to add as you have said it fairly concisely. :)
