Well gee, because leftists are egalitarians.  That means that they want everyone to share equally in poverty, and to be dependent on them, the benevolent rulers, for a meager existence.  As individuals though, they don't plan to be poor; poor is for others.  And, may I add that neo-con Republicans are also stealth egalitarians, who are as guilty as the Democrats in their efforts to keep us from developing our own energy sources.

You mean by blocking mileage requirements for cars?  Or cutting funding to alternative energy exploration?  Or discouraging conservation?

If this question is related to the current "drill now" movement, the US oil companies have drilling rights/leases on 10,000 sites that they aren't using.  Why not?  They have the right to do it, there's no environmental movement preventing them.

Energy independence leads to other forms of independence.  The libs want to increase government control over our lives, therefore they oppose anything that will increase our personal independence.

There are areas that our friends on the right want to drill that are part of pristine, untouched land in the North.   Drilling would open up ANWR to refineries, pipelines, potential oil spills, refining pollution and waste, etc.

There is much more to life that money and oil and driving and toys made of plastic.  We can be energy independent with the oil supplies we already have along with renewable energy but people have to make sacrifices...live more simply.  It's not hard, but d**n capitalist scum are too hard-nosed and selfish to make any changes in their lifestyle.  They would rather pillage and plunder.

because they hate america and love the fact that we are struggling financially in a capitalistic society.  they perfer marxism, or communism and see the struggles with fuel to be assisting them in their cause.
