Why do our nails turn white after they reach a certain length?

I had no clue where to put this question. I was going to put it in the skin and body section, but figured it would get unnoticed by the teenage girls and their am I pretty questions.

  1. Well you know how most of our nail is a pinking color? That's because it is slightly transparent and is over blood and skin cells. But when our nails grow out it isn't right over our blood to give it that color.  


  2. all of our nail is white its jsut becuase its on the skin that makes it look pink. when it grows off of the skin  you can see its white

  3. They are white where they no longer are attached to the finger.
