Why do owners of "Horse Boxes" feel it necessary to write "Horses" on them?

So that people understand why they may be driving rather slowly, and drive carefully near them.  It's to protect the horses, really.

because its to let people no wots in it so you don't get stuck behind it on motor way as they do usually  go over 50... as there are horses in it .....?

I agree, it's because it's a warning to motorists, that the

vehicle may be slow moving because of livestock.It is at

least a valid reason unlike some vehicles that have a

sign saying "brat" on board,for no good reason other than

stating an unnecessary fact

having put in thousands of miles in the back of vans filled with high strung race horses.... i would say the reason is to prevent people from tailgaiting, or blowing their horns because the van is going"too slow".  other drivers can be a down right menace to the van driver with a few tons of horses in the back!  it has nothing to do with being stuck on themselves, for goodness sake!  try driving a van full of horses one day and you will appreciate how hard it really is.

Cause they're that stuck up trheir own ar*es they forget about everything except money and themslves and need to remind themselves their is something behind them that doesnt want to listen to them talk about how much money "daddy" makes. (Sorry couldnt help myself)

To warn people that there maybe unpredictable animals there who maybe frightened by sudden noise or movement.  Some motorists are oblivious to horse boxes.
