Traditional painters' overalls were made of boiled linen which is white.  It seemed a bit pointless dying them.  Carpenter's overalls on the other hand were made of unbleached cotton and were light brown.

Good question. I think it's because they want to show that they have been working. If they wore blue you wouldnt see all the blue paint and would think that theyve been sitting on their keesters all day.

Maybe it's also because alot of painters work outside alot and white is a cool color. and also easy to tell if you have paint on you incase its still wet not to get wet paint everywhere.

because most of them paint with white paint so if it gets on them no one will know the diffrence...

it doesnt distract the while they paint plus its funky at the end and also u no where the colors are so wen u bleach it u only put it  on those spots and it doesnt absorb the sun wen u paint and its hot out

If they have a uniform that is spattered with pain, they are a messy painter (like me), but if it is always white, they are careful.  Hire careful painters.  White basically shows spatters well. Also, when painting outside, white is cooler than a color that absorbs heat.

so they can use cheap bleach to get stains out without ruining the color of they outfit... which is white anyway, so yeah.

My father was a painter and decorater for 60 years and taught many others the art.

He always wore white because regardless of how much paint he got on it, and it was a lot, he always looked smart and professional when he turned up on a job.

It was also easier for my mother to boil his overalls on the hardest wash.

I on the other hand, decorate my house and friends's houses in old jeans.

I would have say because most of the time a white jumpsuit is used when they paint either a white or off-white color.  If they are using a green/red/gold/ etc. they will probably wear something that isn't white.  I don't know, but interesting question.

Because the majority of houses are painted with whites and off whites so they do not show the spots as bad. , plus white is cooler when painting exteriors.

white is peaceful, undistracting. helps keep your mind at ease, and trys not to play around with the colours around you. if you wear green and you're painting green it might be hard to see the shade exactly the way you want it.
