  1. Fossils are found only in sedimentary rocks. Also, because sedimentary rock is made up of the remains of earlier rock,it provides clues to the earth's geological history. The fossil remains of past life includes  hard parts of the animals such as shells and skeletons and plant materials.

Fossils of species that lived for just a short span of geological time, and are widespread around the world, allow geologists to date the rocks in which they are found to a reasonably specific time period.Such fossils are known as 'index fossils'.

  2. for two reasons mainly:

    (1) Igneous and metamorphic rocks transform the original constituents including traces of past life, if any (fossils).

    (2) Due to rapid burial conditions both in marine as well as in terrestrial or fluvial conditions life forms have good chances of fossilization.

  3. Because you only find fossils in sedementary rock.

found at the bottom of rivers, lakes, etc. Any bones that happen to be embedded in that mud will be fossilized.

Fossils don't appear in igneous or metamorphic rocks because these rocks are formed under conditions of heat and pressure that would destroy any organic material (or preexisting fossils) that might be present.
