Why do parents on yahoo answer automatically assume?

thaat people who spank do it over every little infraction a child does?

Before I had my kids, I was against spanking. That all changes the first time your child runs in the road/investigates an electric outlet/anything that could get them killed. You bet I'll spank them, I'm trying to keep them alive, not beat them! I can understand people being anti-spanking and assuming that everyone does it inappropriately because they probably don't do it. But ignore them. As long as you're using it in a "healthy" manner, you're ok!

Also, there are so many people that DO spank inappropriately, and that's really unfortunate... to the child, and to the rest of the world because everyone just assumes it's child abuse. But I'd rather be ridiculed for spanking than have my child hit by a car.

I agree with Glenna!  I spanked my kids when I thought it was appropriate, but it was a tiny piece of the disciplinary process in our home.

I don't know but I don't I use variations in discipline and it keeps my little girl on her toes! she's relatively a good child but I do spank with direct disobedience or extremes in school etc.

Because, people who do not spank, find it absolutely horrifying that any person would spank.

Also, they might have grown up in an abusive home that spanked for no reason at all....

with all the "sexual abuse" scares around the country, people are overly cautious about what could be conceived at sexual abuse or even just physical abuse.

I am neutral on the subject....but thats just my two cents!

discipline should be handled according to the crime. I am a Yahoo! answers mom and I do spank my children when it's bad enough and I use it as a last resort. Not staying it's bad but every child reacts  differently to certain types of punishment.
