Why do pea seeds contain large amounts of starch?

  1. They are food reserves for the emerging seedling.  That starch will supply energy to the seed while it grows through the soil and produces its first set of leaves.  Then it can begin photosynthesizing and produce its own energy.

    Peas that are grown for crops are selectively breed to have large amounts of starch so we can eat them.  Wild peas would probably have much smaller seeds.


  2. much like corn to me. I was a header mechanic for years for Stokley Van Camp. Pea pods are nothing compared to corn where starch is concerned. It's all natural but forced. Corn starch is by far more infectious then a pea pod.
