Why do peopl and media rely on polls when anyone in the world can participate in them?

especially internet polls. is it media control because they never say that these polls can be voted by anyone in the world which makes me wonder why Obama had his world tour. Therefore the polls are not just by Americans but anyone in the world but hte media says things like, "Americans feel this...". Also do you think that Mccain voters are at work and not sitting around all day doing polls but these Obama people are sitting around manipulating them along with his followers in Germany and the rest of the world?

Polls give the illusion that you know what the people want.  That makes folks feel good.  They can step back and hide their option and just say 'the poll says everyone says this.'

Everyone manipulates polls...that is the whole point.
