Question:

Why do people, for the most part, think that the government should enforce their morals on everyone?

Everybody has a different system of morals of beliefs. I, for one, believe that going to prostitutes makes you a dirt-bag and doing drugs or alcohol makes you and idiot. g*y marriage doesn't bother me.

But, what right do I, or anyone else, really have to enforce my morals upon any other human being.

That's why I believe, politically, that all the previously mentioned things should be legalized. Why do people think that their values are more important than everyone elses?

  1. why did America let all these foreigners in that have changed everything to benefit them! This country was based on the basic fundamentals of Christan law ya know the 10 Commandments...that nobody seems to care about anymore..Why do I an american born citizen have to put up with every other country's bullshit here in my own country. I cant even say merry christmas because I might offend someone///well FCK that

  2. Basically, you have to draw a line some where. There's what you think is right and what you know is right. You may think pot should be illegal, but know that kids should not be allowed to use it even if it's legal. Also, behind marriage is a huge list of legal stuff. Some think that g*y marriage is the first step towards letting any one marry any thing and there for ruin the whole marriage system (although, I have nothing wrong with it). If you don't enforce what you think is right there would be no laws and no police. Really, you may push less of your ideas on other people, but none the less still do it.

  3. Amazing isn't it?  People do not realize that enacting a law to make someone do what they think is desirable is morally the same as holding a gun on them to make them do it.

  4. You're completely right.  Under Ted Bundy's moral code, murder was OK.  Under lots of individuals' moral code, s*x with a minor is OK, not to mention fraud, theft, and rape.  Let's do away with the laws altogether and just have a free for all.

We all have the power to vote for our lawmakers.  If they don't support what we believe, we can cast a ballot for someone else.

  5. One function of law is to establish what a society deems acceptible and "normal."  For example, it is aganst the law to commit suicide.  Why?  The government can't very well punish someome for commiting suicide but there is a law none-the-less.  The reason is this:  the law establishes a norm: suicide, by our society, is considered deviant behavior.  So laws against 'victimless crimes," or against g*y marriage establish norms.  That is the function of these laws and the reason that some people do not wish to declare, though a law, that g*y marriage is 'normal behavior.'   You may not agree with this conclusion but the majority of people do; thus the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.  This is what we deem 'normal' as a society.

  6. Firstly, the government is supposed to be a representation of the people. (Note, I said supposed to be.) Therefore a representation of the peoples morals.

Secondly, prostitution and drugs are not harmless acts. While choosing to sell your body or consume some drugs may seem like it only hurts you the actual industry and crime syndicate involved harms plenty of people.

I'm all for the decriminalization of pot. Millions are wasted prosecuting people for a little pot. If regulated you could do away with the criminal element, tax the crumb outta it and use the tax money for prevention and treatment programs.

EDIT: Yah...I guess I kinda disproved my first point with the pot point...lol...

  7. Your right, really, its just that the Government wants to look good for others in power, who usually are against all the above things you said, and neither republican nor democrat gives a c**p in what the people actually want.
