I know it don't count record wise, but it counts team coordination wise. people say so what if my team lost its just pre-season well if your team loses 2 or 4 games straight its a good indicator to what their season has in store if the team has bad chemistry.

My Football Coach would say "every game counts and if we lose don't just say its 1 lose...take it as a way we can lose the whole season".

What do yall think? Do you think Pre-season is jsut 4 or 5 games that you could just brush off like it never happened and fell that your team will play at champion callibur at season opener?.

  1. Depends on who you are.

If your team loses a pre-season game then it's just an extended practice session with your coach merely running "vanilla" plays...and saving the good stuff in the playbook until the season starts.  Also, you say the game doesn't mean anything anyway, since most of the "scrubs" playing it are going to be cut by the first game.

If your team wins a pre-season game then it's a harbinger of the great things to come for the season:  you've got a hot coach, great O-line, rookie QB jem that passes 8/8, etc. etc.  Surely this is a sign your team is going to the Superbowl.

It's fun to lurk on some NFl team forums.  Watch them switch from one view of a preseason game they lost last week to to the completely opposite one this week when they win.  It is truly hilarious.

  2. Preseason is not a true measure as to how good a team is,it's merely to see what the rookies can do and also see which of the many wanabees might make the team, coaches usually know what season players can do,it's not unusual for a team to go win less in the preseason and wind up winning the Super Bowl

  3. Pre season in the NFL is important to the rookies and coaches because they get to see how much their team improved and who should start. Veteran players who are proven hate the pre season because they have to try their hardest not to get injured in a game that doesn't count.

  4. It matters in the fact that it gives coaches a chance to see what their rookies/FA acquisitions can do. They get to run the majority of the team through different plays to see their weakness, strengths, and who might need to be cut. It helps establish who a starter will be if that position is open, or who the #2 and #3 slots are for an already filled position. It's just a good way to see what you're team can handle.

It doesn't matter because coaches generally aren't going out there caring about winning. Obviously the objective of any game is to win, but if a coach is trying to see what his rookie QB can do with his 3rd string oline and receivers, he doesn't care that they might not be scoring against the opponents starting D. Some coaches will keep doing the same things and lose because they want to see what their team can handle more than they want to win.

Teams that win or lose preseason games don't count them because they generally aren't a good indication of how their teams will actually fair in the regular season. They aren't fielding their best players and calling their best plays, they're just trying to see how versatile their team is and how well some players can perform.

  5. It DOESN'T Count when you lose in Preseason. Especially the first 2 games when the First string BARELY PLAYS. That isn't much of an indication of how the starters will play. As to team chemistry that is what training camp, practice through out the week, and the rest is for. A preseason game where you play one or two series isn't going to do much for that. Also you sometimes have to factor who the team plays in the first week or two. Although if you want proof of the problems of preseason are meaningless I remember about 2 years ago the Steelers First String couldn't score in the preseason and then in the first week they went out and scored like 3-4 touchdowns and the offense wasn't struggling.

  6. Well here's my opinion on preseason. I I don't think that it should be 4 games like it is in the NFL. I would personally pick something like 2 but your right, you need SOME preseason so you can build chemistry and decide position battles.

  7. It doesn't count SCORE wise...like for the season. Yes every game counts in the way you're talking about, but when I say pre-season doesn't count, I mean towards the season. It's not even the normal players anyways.

  8. Preseason is VERY important. It's when a teams starters are officially named, when players earn a job, or when they get told to go home. It's what gives the stars a chance to get some actual game-style play before the regular season actually starts. To people like Aaron Rodgers, the 49ers Quarterbacks, Brett Favre and many others, it is time to make a statement. For many of the guys out there, this is their playoffs. The only difference: They won't be back next year.

    Preseason is VERY important.
