Why do people act different with other people when they are with you?

I actually do this, but it's completely unintentional. Sometimes when I get home the effects are still on me, and my Mom can guess who I was hanging out with because I act and talk like them. I don't know why I do it, but I'd guess that it's our instincts to fit in, like if an animal needed a herd they would suck up to the alfa-male(or sometimes female) to get in.

maybe they really don't act different. they could just be embracing an aspect of their personality that they don't need 2 with you.  Now if they act different to you as in being mean when they are with different people then they are 2 faced.

Out of fear of rejection and desire for acceptance.When you are with someone who is completely compatible with your character and your every trait you feel accepted and there is no fear of rejection from that individual so you are your true self, and when you are with someone who is not compatible with your character or many of your traits you fear rejection and/or judgment so you act like he or she wants you to act to be accepted but  that is not who you are.You live in constant fear of rejection that drains your intelligence and causes you to make frequent mistakes.Always hiding parts of yourself in front of some and exposing them in front of the others for the same reasons.Fear of rejection and desire for acceptance.Most people have the inherit desire for acceptance from the majority so they do what they do to be accepted.They hide most of their "weird"habits from the majority out of fear of rejection because they know,or think,they will find it weird or unacceptable because they have never seen someone else behave this way.Different is the unknown and unknown is the enemy.Most things that are unknown or "weird"for them causes fear and fear is unpleasant and rejected.Humans are instinctive hedonists.We desire to be surrounded only by that which is known to them because known is safe.One thing that can overwrite the strong instinct called fear is even a stronger one called curiosity.Hedonism is the reason why we eat food that tastes good and reject food that tastes bad because bad is unpleasant but what many do not know is that the best food has the worst taste.It all comes down to how much control you have over your animal instincts.If you control your instincts there is nothing you cannot do.

some people do it because there trying to act like the person to try to make a new friend. And some people just do it to try to get into a comfort zone around different people
