They are an asset to our country.  The Queen gave up having a normal life to reign over her country, we should be grateful to her, because it wont ever happen again!!!!

have no clue all they do, in my opinion, is sit on their fat backsides all day and do nothing. what do they do for charities, poverty etc nothing. but we're expected to even if we can't afford it!

Because of the history, prestige, dimplomatic reasons, and also for the economic convinience from the tourist trade. Also there other reasons, but if I went on, it would get boring.

But the royal family is a bit big so I can't really answer your question. Some are just a bit useless, aren't they? (This is a rhetorical question)

Because Her Royal Majesty, God bless her, and her family, provide good role models for the rest of society.

People in other countries, when planning holidays, come here just to see our Royal family. I don't know any other country where that happens.

I have great respect for our Queen, she is a diplomat when she goes abroad and she helps to sell British products abroad too. Tourists flock to see her when they come to visit Great Britain and I firmly believe that she helps our economy a great deal. If we 'got rid' of her, the Americans would snap her up like a shot.

As for the Royal Family, I have mixed feelings. I believe that some are important and others not so important to us and yes, we spend too much money keeping the hangers on. However, the immediate heir to the throne and the next 2 in line (Charlie, William and Harry) should be well looked after by us imho. Camilla and the Duke of Edinborough are hangers on and don't deserve 1 penny from us!

For the same reason people are interested in Celebs.

I like having a Royal Family, they are part of our history and heritage.  I hate the idea of handing the country over to a greedy, lying, corrupt, expenses-claiming "President" who's just another jumped up politicians.  I hate politicians.  

And the Royals don't "sit on their backsides all day" they work pretty hard at their public appearance etc.  Those who sit on their backsides all day are actually dole bums and the like.

Those who claim to "hate" the Royals should take themselves accross the Pond where they can sample the "delights" of living under a moron like Bush.

I work with particle physicists who are, in my opinion, highly intelligent people. Yet they are expected to treat some drunken oik, who only scraped a pass in art history because his tutor wrote some of his essays, as their superior!

The monarchy is a joke, and they're the ones laughing at us.

I dont know.  I am slighty interested in the royals, but only Princess Diana and Prince William and that though.  I have no interest in the Queen, Prince Charles, Edward or Philip coz I cant stand them.  They seen really pompous.  I wouldnt want to be a royal though.  Just imagine everytime you do something its in the paper or on the news.  I bet they cant even take a c**p in private wihtout cameras flashing at them.  I wouldnt mind their money though!

It's beyond me. They're nothing special and a little old hat in today's age.

Royalty should be abolished. No human is higher than another, no matter their riches or where they come from.

I don't need to admire individual members of the royal family as people, I'm sure some of them are absolute parasites, But I think the institution of monarchy is an important safeguard.

Having the highest offices of the land outside of the grasp of politicians, and the powers of those offices limited by Constitution, is a protection against tyranny. Think 'President Brown'!

It can be the history, tradition, etc etc. But, you really have to ask why does anybody admire anyone in the public eye.?

If you can say exactly what it is that makes you go to see your favourite band or  football team, or even choose them in the first place, then that's your answer. -- And you can try to justify as hard as you like, why your favourite sportsman, musician political party, or any subject is 'best', as there will be loads of others who'll think you've been brainwashed or you're a moron because.....
