Why do people always assume that Canada is always freezing and snowy?? We don't live in igloos!?

I have lived here all my life... and there are definitely the freezing cold times but I have never seen a real life polar bear or been in an igloo. We get excruciatingly hot summers too!! If you look outside right now you will see many people shirtless or wearing short shorts and a tank. I just got really burnt last week! The only place that is really always cold is the northern part of Canada where not many people live and are mostly filled with natives. Also, if you look on the globe, we are pretty much aligned with Europe and part of Asia.

Maybe because people that live in NewYork, Ohio and Montana are freezing 6 months out of the year.  Canada is further North and receives less sunlight so it kind makes sense that it would be cold.

Those who live in the south, particularly along the east coast, notice that temperatures cool off significantly as one goes up.  So from topical Miami, they see the trend that it gets cooler as one goes up in cities such as Jacksonville, New York, etc..., so they assume Canada must be cold/snowy all the time.

Stop complaining about how hot it is!  I live in Texas, so you have no right to complain when you only have a handful of days a year above 90F. In June, we had 19 days over 100F. It is much colder in Canada than it is in most of the U.S.

I don't live in a desert either. We average 32 inches of rain per year.

I don't think that most EDUCATED people assume that Canada is a frozen wasteland.

In my opinion, you shouldn't worry about what the general public thinks (especially when we are talking about the American public).  As a matter of fact, ignorant comments can be very helpful. They show you that the person making such comments should not be taken seriously.
