Why do people always assume that bugs are pest and are ugly?

i dont get it, people take one look at an insect or spider and say they are ugly and gross, then they kill it. why cant people take the time to study the bugs to understand what they are and what they can help us with? Thats just like going up to some black or white person and saying "ewe".

people dont like what there afraid of. Nobody afraid of spiders is gonna want to take time to understand them

Because people have always not liked what they don't know about. Your black and white example is exactly right, but it is now not allowed by law. Ignorance is the answer to your question.

Some of us like to study them. I've been doing it since I was able to crawl. Most people just aren't very well educated on the subject (it's hard to be well educated it's a pretty broad subject) and they deal, mainly, with the insects that are pests because those are the ones that most obviously impact everyday life. The most we can do is try to educate people as much as possible on harmless and even beneficial insects. There are also those with irrational phobias, which can't really be changed. If you continue to be an advocate for insects and to study them maybe people will be less freaked out. For instance, most of my friends and family, even those that are terrified of insects, will capture something when they see it and call me to get it instead of killing it. Then I tell them what I know about it and thank them and they gain a little more knowledge while I gain a new specimen for my collection. It works out quite nicely, actually. Even people I've met who say they will never capture a bug alive just to give it to me end up doing so after knowing me for a few weeks. If you express interest and enthusiasm and actually explain things to people rather than telling them they're being ridiculous for being afraid of insects they will likely, at the very least, become a little more tolerant.

well roaches are nasty but other than that i agree, everyone wants to kill spiders but they are good, only kill roaches people!!!
