Question:

Why do people always believe us refs bottle the big decisions?

At big grounds such as Anfield, Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford in particular! or even against the "big teams"?

This is completely unture and misguided! I believe this was proved last season when

1)Mascherano was sent off for constant dissent and abusive language at OT against Liverpool

2)Portsmouth were awarded a penalty and the goalkeeper sent off at OT against Man Utd

3) Drogba was sent off in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE final against Man Utd!

They are only 3, if you care to add.....:)

  1. Something to do with fear ?

  2. whats the point in arguing over refferes decisions when we can bring in video replays??

it works in rugby, it works in cricket, it works in tennis and horseracing so why not football??

it would make the game more fair and competitve.

  3. It takes decisions away from the people who actually make the mistakes is all.

  4. 1) Although I respect you authority, Mr. Bennett, I do believe your decision to dismiss Mascherano was incorrect and petty. He had the right to ask "What's going on?" when you had just yellow carded Fernando Torres for seemingly nothing.

    2) A very rare occurance.

    3) Petty decision.

  5. I agree with hybrid Mr Steve that Martin Atkinson properly screwed Man Utd big style maybe he didnt see things froma clear maybe he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, i dont know and i dont care, he should have reviewed the video footage of all his wrong doings.  thats why this video footage has to be introduced to minimise errors Mr.Steve you ref's do a good job but still human capable of error, Anyways back to the question a poor ref decision was a while back ago (like 5 years) i rememeber when Man Utd played West Ham and their striker got the ball in an offside position and the ref still continued the play the goalie still had his hand up for the offside call but the player went and scored and screwed again Utd for 3 points and replays clearly showed the offside, not one but two ref's made that bad decision.

  6. Mike McCurry - Rangers V Dundee Utd.

Utd were denied a penalty, had every decision against them, had a goal chalked off and their Manager actually said "will I just take the team off so that you can hand Rangers the points?".

Either refs bottle the big decisions (i.e. give every single decision to Rangers because they were still in the running for the title) or McCurry is incompetent or McCurry is a blatant supporter of one team over the other.

Referees like him are the answer to your question.

  7. I think you are right. Referees have a tough job anyway. Try taking it to www.magicoffootball.com

  8. It all balances itself out by the end of the season - you will find most teams have some decisions for them and some against

  9. clattenberg was an absolute disgrace in the everton v liverpool game last season i've never seen so many poor decisions in one game not even in sunday league... lol..

on the mascerano incident i'm suprised he didnt go earlier.. saying that i'm suprised he dont get sent off more often lol..

  10. Thats only 3 when the ref got it correct, how many times has the ref got the big decisions very much wrong? many many times!

As i said yesterday, video ref, would help you the refs, and therefore more decisions would be the correct ones. Many times ive watched a match on TV, a replay of an incident has been shown and slow-mo too, which clearly shows the incident from different angles, sometimes from an angle that the ref or his assistants dont see, so this has surely got to be a benefit to all concerned, the refs, the players and could actually "turn a game around".

I know you red carded me yesterday, banned me for 2 matches also,  and the FA are involved in my dispute but i felt i had to answer at least one of your questions today Mr Bennett!

  11. If you want to talk about the FA Cup quarter-finals,then let's talk about the blatant fouls Portsmouth committed on United, and the numerous penalties that you SHOULD have CORRECTLY awarded to United.

It's a fact that referees bottle the big decisions, because they're afraid to cause any controversy, and they're afraid of being criticized for doing a bad job. It's nothing to be defensive about,it's a fact, and as long as there are people publicly criticizing decisions that referees make, the referees will keep bottling big decisions.

  12. Can you ref the Liverpool United game in September, any back chat from Rooney--Off,any diving from Ronaldo--Off,any gum chewing on the side lines---Off.
